Morris County will be the setting Wednesday morning for a commuter race featuring four environmentally friendly forms of transportation — from biking and taking the train to driving an electric car.
The four participants will depart from the NJ Transit train station in Madison at 8:05 a.m. and should reach the finish line at the Hyatt Morristown Hotel, about five miles away, by 8:40 a.m., TransOptions president John Ciaffone said.
Hanover-based TransOptions, which promotes alternatives to the long solo drives in sport-utility vehicles that define so many commutes in Morris County, is organizing the event along with Marty’s Reliable Cycle.
Ciaffone said the event is about “raising awareness” and is more of a commuter challenge than a pure race. The winner will not be getting any prizes, he added, other than bragging rights.
Matthew Vance, a Morristown attorney who lives in the Ironbound section of Newark, is one of the four commuters taking part.
